KW-X-frontfinal

This is a pleasant surprise.

Hot on the heels of the pretty great Major Lazer album recently released comes Keep Watch Vol. X: Major Lazer. The mixtape, which is curated by Major Lazer’s Diplo and Switch, is part of the ‘Keep Watch’ series by Mishka. Naturally, the best part of the entire thing is the new verse from M.I.A. Her verse which is rapped over ‘Baby’, a looped auto-tuned baby squeal, regards her disdain at absent fathers. “Tell me what the real daddy’s for/Never really had one, so I will never know/but if you stick around maybe you could tell me more.” She ends her verse by saying, “I aint gonna raise my son like that/this is a women’s world and he knows that.”

In other good news, it looks like M.I.A has been working on some new material.

You can download the mixtape here.

Sidenote: There is a track off “Guns Dont Kill People– Lazers Do’ called ‘Keep It Going Louder’. If anything, the track only highlights the particularly great aspects of auto-tune that make tracks like this seem so epic. It’s a perfect slab of pop perfection, glittering with synths and male/female trade offs from Ricky Blaze and Nina Sky. It could easily rival anything in the top 40 right now but it’s not the Black Eyed Peas singing so it probably won’t happen. Lets just hope it’s their next single.
