Lupe Fiasco's New Mixtape "Enemy Of The State"

In good rap releases of late, here comes Lupe Fiasco’s Enemy of the State mixtape. Turns out Lupe has stepped his game up – dude is sounding grittier than ever, which can only be a good thing as he takes on tracks from Radiohead (The National Anthem), Clipse (Popular Demand), Jay-Z (Thank You) and Slaughterhouse (The One). Not to take away from what he’s done or anything but I really think he could have worn out his welcome with all the conscious rap, “backpack rat pack” talk, which got him this far. It may just be a mixtape, but he’s employing all these Lil’ Wayne styled couplets (just listen to Turnt Up, for more proof) with double meanings and stacks of attitude, which is something that was always hit and miss on his past mixtapes and albums. Also, Lupe’s cussing now, which sounds like a stupid thing to point out but he only uses it to emphasise certain lines in his delivery. Another mixtape (Friend of the People) will be dropping on Christmas Day and his full-length third album will be out in early 2010. [Download via 2dopeboyz]
