R.I.P Cardinals Bassist Chris Feinstein

Chris FeinsteinA few weeks ago when one of our reviewers went to the one-off Gin concert in Auckland, he sat down with the Cardinals and was told that bassist Chris Feinstein was home in New York resting a bad back. For that night and the series of shows in Australia, Feinstein was replaced by Jeff Hill from Rufus Wainwright’s band – yesterday came the news that he had died, aged 42, in circumstances that are still unknown. Feinstein worked on Gin’s debut album, Holy Smoke, as well as working with Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. and of course Ryan Adams, where he worked on the albums Easy Tiger, Follow The Lights and Cardinology. No word yet from anybody really, except an obviously distraught Cardinals drummer, Brad Pemberton. “This is the saddest day of my life. I lost my best friend today…things will never be quite the same.” More when it comes.
