News came today that author J.D. Salinger died of natural causes at the age of 91. The man behind The Catcher In The Rye was said to have written dozens of other works in his life, which saw him become somewhat of a recluse as he shied away from doing interviews. He told The New York Times that he was happy not publishing much of his work — “I like to write. I love to write. But I write just for myself and my own pleasure,” he said. So far, no one’s talking about whether any of his unseen work will be published but it’s something which the literary community is taking an obvious interest in. Of course, Catcher wasn’t his only great work that the public got a taste of — Nine Stories, Franny and Zooey, and Raise High The Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction are all worth taking the time to read. For those that are interested, there is also a nice piece over at The Huffington Post on the legacy of his Glass family stories. [via NYT]
