Awesome Feeling 5: Nothing To Nobody “Push On”

Auckland based duo Nothing To Nobody is the brainchild of Lui Tuiasau and Barnaby Marshall. Their roots are noticeably in hip-hop soul and throughout their music you can hear the influence of Slum Village, A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock and CL Smooth and more. Not that their sound is a complete throwback to a 90’s heyday, instead Tuiasau crafts his verses around something a little more unique to his surroundings. Comparisons aside, there’s an albums worth of songs on their Soundcloud page, and they’ve also been recording newer material which will hopefully be dropping soon. On top of that, Tuiasau has teamed up with Homebrew’s Tom Scott for @Peace – a joint project which will see the release of their debut EP in the very near future. ‘Sky Is Falling’ is the first taste of the project and we’ve included one of Nothing To Nobody’s best below.

From 2007, Real Groove magazine released four Awesome Feeling compilations, showcasing a diverse and exciting range of underground local talent. Real Groove may be gone, but we think there’s just as many exciting local acts worth a listen, so The Corner is putting out a fifth volume of Awesome Feeling with the support of Groove Guide. We’ll be revealing one new artist/track every weekday throughout May, and posting the entire compilation for download at the end of the month.

  2. Nice. Nice. Nice. Some better production and I would drive to the record store and buy it tomorrow. Will be looking out for these guys from now on.

Lui is one of the best rappers in the country. He has a breathtaking ability to realise his narratives in a filmic manner.
