We were first introduced to ChillStreet via ‘SaveMart’, a song quite literally about spending a day op-shopping for Starter jackets and aztec button-ups before going to Maccas for a McFlurry. The currently Hamilton-based duo, made up of Tony Douglas (Anthony Kiwi-Scally) and JimJamz (Jimi Mataio) began working together in September of last year, where they say they formed, made the song ‘Wednesday’ and filmed the video for it all in the same day. They came together through another Corner favourite Loui The ZU, (Tony Douglas produced both ‘Dead Roses’ and the great ‘Plain Buildings’ for ZU, while Mataio also drums for The Good Fun whose lead vocalist frequently collaborates with the rapper). For ChillStreet they both share production duties and they’ve recently released their debut eight-track EP KeepItKiwi. On it you’ll find both ‘SaveMart’ and ‘Wednesday’ and also ‘LoveKids’, which is included below.
From 2007, Real Groove magazine released four Awesome Feeling compilations, showcasing a diverse and exciting range of underground local talent. The Cornerdecided to pick up on that for the fifth volume and we’re back again for round six. We’ll be revealing one new artist/track every weekday throughout May, and posting the entire compilation for download at the end of the month.
