Lorde’s ‘Royals’ Is The Number One Song In The Country

Local singer Ella Yelich-O’Connor, better know as Lorde, has just debuted at no. 1 on the NZ Top 40 singles chart with ‘Royals’ – the track is also no. 1 on the NZ Singles chart while her EP The Love Club that ‘Royals’ is lifted from also appears at no. 2 on the main albums chart and at the top of the NZ Albums chart. Three other singles – ‘The Love Club’, ‘Bravado’ and ‘Million Dollar Bills’ also appear on the NZ Singles Chart at no. 4, 5 and 19 respectively. This all sounds very confusing but the distinctive difference is that the main charts factor in international singles and albums while the NZ charts are solely based on local singles and albums.

After being downloaded for free via Soundcloud 60,000 times, Lorde’s The Love Club was put up on iTunes last Friday – you can purchase it here.
