Instead of forcing you to sift through legions of events every weekend, we’ll just point out the really good ones. We’ll try keep this as brief as we can.

ONGOING TOURS: Sickest Smashes From Arson CityTiny RuinsBeastwars

Friday 24 May:

‘Sickest Smashes Of Arson City’ Release @ Cassette 9 / 10pm / $10 (door), $5 (with bCard) [AKL]

w/ BnP, the Dance Asthmatics, Salad Boys, Thrill Collins, X-Ray Charles

We really do owe some credit to Auckland city for putting up with our tireless promo of Cassette’s gigs this month, when there are some very quality events that have missed out. I swear we’re not being paid to do this. In all frankness, though, MUM Clubnight’s lineup selection over these past few weeks has been pretty tops, and this one does them one better. Melted Ice Cream needs no introduction — we already gave it one with our inclusion of Salad Boys on this year’s Awesome Feeling comp. A five-band lineup might usually be an exhausting affair, but I can assure you that bands like BnP and the Dance Asthmatics will keep you awake for a while. If the drunken political ramblings of Thrill Collins or the fantastic experimental pop of X-Ray Charles (fantastic video btw) isn’t enough to convince you, let me assure you: this is gig of the year for Auckland. Now everybody yell “FUCK THE GOVERNMENT!”.

Tommy Ill ‘Fearless Bueller’ Release @ Puppies / 9pm / $10 (until 12am) [WGTN]

w/ Eyeliner, Totems, Race Banyon (DJ set)

Tommy has not yet recovered from Illness, so head to Puppies tonight to pay your respects.

Carb On Carb (AKL) EP Release @ Darkroom9.00pm / Free [CHCH]

w/ Zen Mantra, Coate

While all your Melted Ice Cream buddies are partying in Auckland, you can check out one of the Shitty City’s finest, Carb On Carb. Here’s their new EP, it’s really good. This gig is all ages so go buckwild.

Saturday 25 May:

Hospital Sports & friends @ Audio Foundation / 7pm / $5 [AKL]

w/ Hospital Sports, April’s Fool, Alex Angryman, Polarnaut

No loud noises for hungover people.

Tiny Ruins (AKL) ‘Haunts’ Release @ The Darkroom / 9pm / Free [CHCH]

w/ Aldous Harding

Auckland’s most bloodthirsty grindcore ten-piece come to plunder the city of Christchurch with some spine-breaking shreds.
