Here’s What You Should Do This Weekend: 19 July

Every week, we bring you a selection of events around the country that might not be receiving the attention they deserve. Not to mention it saves you having to wade through countless event invitations from people you don’t like.

Friday 19 July:

Death And The Maiden (dun) @ Cassette 9 / 10pm / $10 (doors) $5 (with bCard) [AKL]

w/ Nordic Blonde, Graveyard Love

We featured Death And The Maiden on our Awesome Feeling 7 compilation this year — it appears as though Dunedin is never in short supply of interesting music. Aucklanders who checked out Males last week, and OPC (and their brilliant EP) the week before will no doubt agree. If you’re not at Goblin or UMO (hint: if you didn’t buy tickets already, you won’t be), do this thing.

Wilberforces vinyl release @ Mighty Mighty / 10pm / $10 [WEL]

w/ Fantails

There’s nowhere to listen to the dang thing online, but Wilberforces’ new ‘Paradise Beach’ 12″ is an expansion of the sound they introduced in ‘Vipassana’. Head along to check out one of Auckland’s finest!

The Dance Asthmatics vs Log Horn Breed @ Darkroom / 9pm / Free [CHCH]

w/ The Dance Asthmatics, Log Horn Breed

Come check out some exhausted dancers with a strange musical genus of felled timber. Cassettes for sale!

Saturday 20 July:

No Saliva tour @ 47 Union Street / 9pm / $5 [AKL]

w/ Pump Iron, Team Cat Food, Trust Punks

I gotta say I’m unfamiliar with 47 Union Street as a venue, but it’s BYO so you can’t really go wrong there. No Saliva just got back from a tour – here’s their music.

If this helpful listing isn’t helpful enough, you can check out these places for more stuff to do this weekend:

Eventfinder / Cheese On Toast / Undertheradar / Mukuna / Groove Guide / The Fold

Leave your gigs in the comments below, or email your suggestions through here (no promises though).
