This year’s top 10 local music video list was relatively easy to compile with two obvious frontrunners in the form of Homebrew’s ‘Under The Shade’ and David Dallas’ ‘Take A Picture’. The latter was shot by seven different directors and had rules that “each scene was to be shot on a different format: 16mm film, VHS, Stop Motion, 3D animation, and during the creation of the video, the directors were not allowed to know what each other were doing”. Rackets kept it low-budget with the impressive ‘Colgate Kid’ while both Princess Chelsea and Parallel Dance Ensemble kept their ideas simple yet effective in much the same way. But as far as we see it, the biggest impact came from ‘Under The Shade’, a video that was a long time coming and made off the money from one fundraiser gig. In April, the group launched the video on the big screen at Avondale’s Hollywood Cinema, a pretty special moment for anyone that was there. It’s not the only great video released this year though; we think the 10 below all deserve multiple viewings and actual proper accolades that have nothing to do with being mentioned on a blog. David Dallas will take his Rose Tint pop-up store to Wellington this Thursday December 1 for one day only. The store will be located at Rough Peel Music (140 Vivian Street) from 10am-8.30pm and will have special merch for sale, spot prizes and a live performance from Ddot himself.

Last week, The Rose Tint debuted at no. 3 on the top 40 albums chart in New Zealand, making it the highest charting hip-hop release of the year. Check out his latest video ‘Ain’t Coming Down’ below.

Farmageddon is back for another year and will see performances from David Dallas, Electric Wire Hustle, Home Brew, P-Money and more. The event takes place on December 3 at Waipu Cove and tickets are available now via Dash Tickets.

David Dallas released the deluxe edition of The Rose Tint yesterday, which is available in stores and on iTunes. He’s also announced that he will have a pop-up store at Conch Records in Auckland from Wednesday to Saturday this week – the store will see merch for sale as well as performances from live DJ’s and P-Money, PNC, Aaradhna, Spycc & INF. David Dallas has released another new video, this time for The Rose Tint’s opening track ‘Start Lookin Round’ (one of the few songs not produced by Fire & Ice; this time prod. duties came courtesy of Dan “Exile” Mawb). Check it below.

David Dallas is set to release The Rose Tint deluxe edition next month featuring all 13 original tracks, four brand new ones and instrumentals of the whole album. In the meantime, he’s dropped ‘Feel Like Oasis’, a new song featuring Tayyib Ali and The Kid Daytona – stream/download below.

Homegrown 2012 will take place on Saturday February 18 at Wellington’s waterfront and you can check out the first lineup announcement below. Pre-sale tickets are available now with GA tickets on sale from September 26. Expect another 20 acts to be announced on October 31.
