A statement said, “The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health. It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve What is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way”.

The band also added, “The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”

The White Stripes released six albums between 1999-2007, and in between those Jack White began work with two other bands, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather. They first played in New Zealand in November 2000. Well known local promoter John Baker became their touring manager and worked with them throughout their career, and they returned to perform here several times.

And just when you already thought there was too much happening in the next few months. The Dead Weather — a.k.a. Jack White’s new side project with Alison Mosshart, Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence — have announced that they will play one show in New Zealand next March. Kids, I suggest you get that pocket money together because the show will be all ages. Tickets on sale Tuesday November 24 from Ticketek with special pre-sale tickets available on November 19 from Frontier Touring.
