Apart from the lack of a theme, the biggest issue here is the lack of a real chorus — or rather the lack of one considering the man responsible for the beat here has also contributed some of the most memorable hooks of the past year (Drake’s Fancy, Jay-Z’s On To The Next One, Lloyd Banks Start It Up). But even on a song like Kanye’s So Appalled, which essentially lacked a hook of it’s own, Swizz Beatz was able to conjure up an intro to drive the track home. Here things are a little too restrained. Multiplying sped-up snares which build up to zilch and synths which hang around for two bars and then split. One would assume it was Minaj’s pure aggression (here she’s playing her alter-ego Roman Zolanski) that inspired Eminem’s verse, who just about one-up’s her. But this isn’t either Minaj or Shady’s best moments by a long shot.
